What is Body Fat Percentage (BFP):

  • It tells us that how much of our total body weight is fat.
  • For example: if you weigh 165 lbs/75 kgs and 30 lbs/13.6 kgs of that is fat, then your body fat percentage is 18%, because 30 lbs/13.6 kgs is 18% of 165 lbs/75 kgs.
  • Body fat percentage is an important number to know, because it can give you an idea of your overall health and fitness.


Healthy Range Of Body Fat Percentage:

  • Too much or too low body fat can be a risk factor for various health problems.
  • Healthy range for body fat percentage can vary depending on multiple factors such as age, gender, genetics and individual goals.

  • However, here are some general guidelines for healthy body fat percentage ranges.



General Guidelines for Healthy Body Fat Percentage :

    • For Men:
      (i) Essential fat: 2-5%
      (ii) Athletes: 6-13%
      (iii) Fitness: 14-17%
      (iv) Acceptable: 18-24%
      (v) Obesity: BFP > 25%

    • For Women:
      (i) Essential fat: 10-13%
      (ii) Athletes: 14-20%
      (iii) Fitness: 21-24%
      (iv) Acceptable: 25-31%
      (v) Obesity: BFP > 32%
